Control of the cycle
Regression of corpus luteus -luteolysis starting 3-4 days before menses - key of MC
luteolysis - estrogens, progesterone -levels fall, FSH and LH secretion increase followed by dominant follicle maturation
midcycle - rise of estrogens from follicle which augments responsivness of pituitary to GnRH and tiggers LH secretion - results in ovulation followed by corpus luteum formation
elevated levels of estrogens, progesterone and inhibin during luteal phase inhibit FSH and LH secretion untill luteolysis occurs and new cycle begins
